Materials + Construction

Our rugs from Nepal use hand-carded, hand-spun and hand-dyed Himalayan wool giving them a wonderfully soft feel and exceptional durability. The high altitude at which the Himalayan sheep graze make for an unusually high level of lanolin, making the carpets soft and stain-resistant.
The weaver uses the sennah or Tibetan knot, which utilizes a long steel rod, around which wool is knotted in long horizontal rows. When a row is complete, the row of knots is cut loose from the steel rod using a razor-type tool. A long-fingered comb is then used to align the row of knots tightly to the previous row. Then the steel rod is reinserted and the weaving continues. It takes approximately one week to complete one linear foot of weaving.
Build and Delivery Time Frames

Most rugs 6x9 and smaller are in stock at our importer and ship via UPS in 7-10 days. Each rug 8x10 and larger is made to order, and hand knotting takes time. Currently, rugs are taking between 6-9 months depending on whether the finishing and drying process is extended by monsoon season. We will provide our best estimate at the time of order, keeping you informed if there any changes with your rug's delivery time frame. Feel free to reach out with questions on current lead times or specifics on any item.

Monitor settings vary, so we always recommend seeing the actual colors of our carpets in your home. Plus, we want you to experience the quality construction so that you trust your investment in one of our hand-knotted rugs. Just purchase the smallest size available and we'll ship it with a return label so that you can send it back for a refund when you've made your choices on a larger rug.

All of our hand-knotted rugs are made from 100% wool. The lanolin in natural sheep's wool makes it naturally stain resistant and easy to spot-clean. These materials determine the quality of the rug, and the knot count determines the intricacy of the pattern that can be woven. Ours range from 60-80 knots per inch, except the Morris Arts and Crafts, which is a stunning 256.

Many hand-knotted rugs are shaved flat, but ours (with the exception of the Stained Glass Green and Gold) have a pile height of approximately 5/8".

Every hand-knotted rug is meant to last for generations. Regular vacuuming, spot-cleaning and professional cleaning once every few years is enough to keep these rugs in great shape. Their construction means that any excessive wear or damage that happens over time can be repaired.
