Who are you and how long have you been in business?
Modern Bungalow was founded in Denver in 2004. We are a small team of dedicated fans of timeless style, sustainable living and quality over quantity. We love to educate people about heirloom quality furniture and décor, including what to look for and how to care for it to last for generations.
How many stores do you have?
Just one! But we keep busy :) We'd love for you to come visit us if you're in Denver!
Do you offer financing?
Yes! For furniture and custom rug purchases, we can take 50% down and the remaining balance on delivery. We also offer no interest financing and more terms up to 24 months. More details here.
Do you offer design services?
You bet! For simple consultations about colors or choices on particular pieces, just ask us. We're happy to give recommendations over the phone, on Zoom, or in our shop. To make an appointment for a FREE design consultation, just click here.
Is your furniture really Amish-made? How does that work?
Our wood furniture is! When you place your order, we email it to a central office staffed with ex-Amish and friends of Amish builders, who print it out and deliver the paper to the small Amish family workshop that will build your piece. When the builder is finished, he will drive it on his buggy to the finishing shop, where it will be checked for quality and finished in your choice of stain and surface treatment.
How long does that take?
Typically the entire process from placing your order through to a finished piece takes 8-10 weeks, plus an additional 1-2 weeks for delivery, for a total of 10-12 weeks. However, there is an Express Collection of some of our more popular styles and finishes that are kept in stock and ready to be put on the next truck out of Amish country. Depending on delivery schedules, you may receive those pieces in 3-5 weeks.
Can I get samples sent to me?
You bet! refer to the Samples tab on each individual item to see what you can order. We usually have small samples of wood, leather and fabric that you can keep. In some cases, we may lend you a sample by taking a deposit and refunding your money when you return it to us. If you don't see what you need, just ask us via the chat function and we'll be happy to help.
Do I have to pay for my whole order up front?
In the case of long lead time items like furniture and custom rugs, we are happy to take a 50% deposit for your order to get it in process. If you'd like to do that, just give us a call at 303-300-3332 and we'll take your order over the phone and take the deposit via credit card.
Can I customize my furniture?
You bet! Besides choosing wood, finish, surface treatment, fabric, etc, we customize all the time. If you have a minor tweak, like making an item wider or shorter or taller, we can typically give you a price quote right away. If you have a more involved question, we can send it out to our maker to ask if they can do it and how much it will be. Either way, just ask!
Is the upholstery durable?
For sure. Most of our upholstery fabrics are 25,000 double rubs or more. If you have pets or kids, you probably want to choose one of our stain resistant fabrics with a W cleaning code. Feel free to reach out to us for suggestions.
Where are the rugs made?
Our rugs are hand knotted in Nepal, India, and Afghanistan. Our importers work with GoodWeave and other certifying organizations to ensure that no child labor is used. The weavers, like our Amish furniture builders, have been trained in their craft for generations.
What are they made of?
All of our rugs are 100% wool. This means that with proper care, they can last for generations. The wool is Swiss-dyed and color-matched before weaving for consistent color and quality before being set onto the looms.
What is the knots per inch?
Our rugs average 70 knots per inch. Keep in mind that the knot count dictates how intricate the design can be, and how long weaving will take. It is not necessarily indicative of the quality of the carpet, which is more dependent on the materials, skill of the weaver, and the process by which the wool is prepared and the rug is woven. Read more here about how to identify a quality rug.
Can I order a custom size?
You bet! Just tell us what pattern you like and we'll have it made for you in the exact size you need. Keep in mind these are handmade, so your perfect rug will take 3-6 months depending on style. There may be an upcharge, but some styles can be made in custom sizes for the same cost per square foot as standard sizes. Just reach out to us on the chat, or call us at 303-300-3332.
Are these real glass shades?
Yes! All of our stained glass fixtures are made with the copperfoil technique. Yours may ship to you with a little bit of residue from the solder that is used, this is normal and easy to wipe off.
What light bulbs can I use in this fixture?
We recommend LED bulbs in all of our fixtures. Not only are they energy-efficient, they now come in all sorts of styles, even Edison bulbs! And there's no chance of overloading the circuitry of the fixture.
Will this stained glass fixture provide enough light?
Most likely. The other nice thing about LED bulbs is that you can choose your equivalent wattage (most of us know what 60 watts looks like but no idea how many lumens we need) and your "temperature" or how yellow you want the light to be. We like 1000bulbs.com, they have everything!
Where are the lights made?
Our customizable glass and brass fixtures are made by Arroyo Craftsman in Baldwin Park, California. Our stained glass fixtures are mostly made by hand in China and imported here to us.
