Tiffany Glass Poppy Ornament
Leaded-glass lampshades with patterns derived from nature are probably Louis Comfort Tiffany's (American, 1848–1933) best-known products. Our cloisonné ornament celebrates a large-scale watercolor in The Met collection showing a Poppy shade design (ca. 1900), possibly painted by Alice Gouvy for Clara Driscoll, head of the Women's Glass Cutting Department at Tiffany Studios. The Poppy shade was likely designed for Tiffany Studios by Driscoll.
Each blown-glass ornament catches light uniquely, which may affect the intensity of color.
